Melissa Covert is the Vice President of Clinical, Complex Health Solutions at CareSource, a national non-profit managed care organization focused on coordinating integrated care within Medicaid and other publicly funded health care programs. Melissa is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor that has served in several clinical roles within the complex health delivery system (case management, care coordination, crisis services, juvenile probation, counseling services, mobile therapy for adults, children, and their families). Melissa has led the design, development and implementation of several results-oriented, high impact community-based initiatives focused on braiding funding streams, formulating strategic community-based partnerships, and improving access of complex health populations to high-quality long term supports and services.

Melissa enjoys exploring new ideas and breaking through stereotypes to showcase the potential in all people, with a particular emphasis in promoting individuals living with traumatic brain injuries (TBI), intellectual/developmental disabilities (I/DD), and behavioral health needs. Melissa also possesses extensive expertise working with youth and adults who are dually diagnosed with I/DD and behavioral health conditions.

Melissa received her undergraduate in Psychology from Pennsylvania State University with a concentration in health and science, and a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Gannon University. She previously served as the Advocacy Chair on the Board of Directors of the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of North Carolina (LPCANC) and continues to support LPCs navigate the state’s complex Medicaid system. As a wellness advocate, Melissa embraces holistic health care and balances the best of both eastern and western healthcare philosophies. Melissa currently resides in North Carolina with her husband, daughter, 2 cats, 2 dogs and 2 hermit crabs.
